Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-10-06 · Ottawood Film Group Inc.

Freo (“Freo”, “we”, “us”) provides a free, ad-supported streaming service through our website, mobile experiences and connected-TV apps. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices available to you.

1. Information we collect

Depending on how you use Freo, we collect:

Account information

  • Email address and name (when you create an account or sign in)
  • Authentication and account status information

Profile information

  • Profile names and avatar colour
  • Subtitle, audio-language, video-quality and autoplay preferences

Viewing activity

  • Titles and episodes played, playback position and watch time (this powers Continue Watching)
  • My List and Likes
  • Interaction with previews and recommendations in For You (impressions, skips, opens)

Device and technical information

  • Device type and platform (for example Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung TV, LG TV, Android TV, web), operating system and app version
  • A random per-install device identifier used to pair TVs and to keep you signed in on that TV
  • IP address and the approximate region derived from it
  • Diagnostic and performance information such as start-up time, rebuffering, bitrate, resolution and playback errors

Advertising and measurement information

  • Ad requests, impressions, completions and errors
  • Device or advertising identifiers where the platform provides them and the law permits

Support information

2. How we use information

  • Provide and operate Freo, including playback, profiles, My List and Continue Watching
  • Authenticate you and keep paired TVs signed in; let you see and sign out your TVs
  • Remember your subtitle, audio and quality preferences across devices
  • Recommend titles in For You based on what you watch, save and like
  • Deliver and measure advertising that keeps Freo free
  • Monitor reliability, security and performance, and detect abuse or fraud
  • Provide customer support and comply with legal obligations

3. Advertising

Freo includes advertising on free streaming content. Ads may appear before or during playback. Advertising partners and service providers may process device, advertising, usage and measurement information to deliver, limit, report on or measure advertisements, subject to applicable law and your privacy choices. Ad frequency is decided by our servers based on content length and your viewing session, not by the advertiser.

At launch Freo does not build advertising profiles of individual viewers. Where a TV platform offers a “limit ad tracking” or similar setting, we honour it. If we introduce personalised advertising we will update this policy and provide the required choice mechanisms first.

Ads served by Google

Ads in the Freo TV apps are served by Google, using Google Ad Manager and the Google Interactive Media Ads (IMA) SDK. Google and its partners may use cookies, device advertising identifiers and similar technologies to serve ads, measure them, limit how often you see the same ad and prevent fraud. To learn how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can manage ad personalisation by Google at adssettings.google.com.

Resetting or limiting your TV’s advertising identifier

Most TV platforms and streaming devices let you reset the device’s advertising identifier, or limit its use for personalised advertising, in the device’s own settings (usually under Privacy, Advertising or Ads; the exact menu names vary by device and software version). When ad tracking is limited, Freo does not send the device advertising identifier with its ad requests. You will still see ads.

4. How we share information

We share information with service providers that help us operate Freo:

  • Cloud hosting and database providers (application hosting, database)
  • Object storage and content-delivery providers that store and stream video and artwork
  • Authentication providers used for sign-in
  • Advertising delivery and measurement partners (for example Google Ad Manager and the Google IMA SDK, and the platform ad SDKs on Roku, Android TV/Fire TV, Apple TV and web)
  • Payment providers, only if you purchase something on the web or in a mobile app (TV apps sell nothing)
  • Customer-support and operational tooling

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect our users or our service, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. We do not sell personal information for money. Where the way our advertising partners use information counts as a “sale” or “sharing” under a privacy law that applies to you, you can opt out on the privacy choices page.

5. Data retention

We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Freo, keep records, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements and protect the service. Viewing progress is kept while your account exists; TV sign-in tokens expire after 180 days or immediately when you sign a TV out, and are purged 30 days later; raw playback and diagnostic events are deleted after 13 months; resolved support requests after two years.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards, including encrypted connections, hashed TV sign-in tokens and access controls with audit logging in our administration tools. No system can guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to withdraw consent, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to manage advertising choices.

  • Submit a request or delete your account: freotv.com/privacy/choices
  • Sign out a TV: Settings → Account → Your TVs in the TV app, or Me → Connect a Device on the web
  • Analytics: the TV app’s Settings → Privacy switch stops non-essential viewing analytics on that TV
  • Email: privacy@freotv.com

We respond to verified requests within the time required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

8. Children’s privacy

Freo is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under the age threshold that applies in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we launch a dedicated children’s experience, this policy, our data practices, advertising behaviour and store declarations will be updated first.

9. International processing

Freo is operated from Canada and our service providers process information in Canada and the United States. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the effective date above when we publish changes and give additional notice where the law requires it.
